The final countdown…

The countdown is really coming to a close now… Just 2 more days till Summer Games 3 kicks off and our kids are charged up! If you are new to our newsletter, or somehow managed to forget, Summer Games is a month long program that we host for our children. It involves around 30 days of games, events, camping, excursions and a plethora of other activities. The whole focus of the games is to build amazing childhood memories for our kids, provide them with new experiences and encourage leadership development.

Our new school sports tracksuit uniforms arrived this week and we think they look amazing! They are a vast improvement on the old uniform which were completely white (yeah, not the most practical colour for sports). Over then next 3 months we will be phasing out the white uniform for good.

We received three large parcels of books from our good friend Mathias in Hong Kong. Mathias is a young man who is out to make the world a better place. At just 13 he started his own charity, Booklinks, with the aim of collecting second hand books and sending them out to our children; in the last year he has sent us hundreds of books! We think he is an amazing inspiration!

This week one of our children, Jyotika, was able to undergo a small elective surgery. Jyotika arrived here on the mission just over 2 years ago with her sister Malika and brother Indro, from that time she has had a large cyst behind her ear. When she first joined us we had it checked out and discovered that it is benign and nothing to worry about. However, at Jyotika’s request, this week we booked her in with our good friend Dr Umesh Kumar and had it removed. Jyotika is overjoyed!

Our fields are currently resting (in between crops) and so we took the opportunity to hire a excavator and remove some old trees that had fallen into our fish tanks. We also took the chance to reinforce the banks of the tank with some additional soil.

That’s coming close to it for this week. Rick has headed off to Delhi over the weekend to pick up John Marshall who is returning for Summer Games 3, our Bachelor of Arts students have one final examination left to complete their second year and a lot of general maintenance has been taken care of across the compound.

Finally we want to share with you some AMAZING NEWS. Our grade 10 students received their Board Results on Saturday afternoon, these results are marked independently from our school. Amazingly every single student in our school achieved higher than 80% (anything above 80% is considered amazing marks). Our mission children received the following scores:

  • Clifford (88%)
  • Sunny (88%)
  • Roma (82%)
  • Annie (80%)

We were blown away by these marks! What an amazing result! We could not be prouder of them. The success of our student body as a whole also confirms to us the quality of education that our students at Maxton Strong School are receiving. Amazing!
