For over 30 years there has been a colony of people who have lived on a corner of the mission who all suffer from leprosy. These people are outcasts from their society, rejected and left to live the rest of their lives unemployed -generally as beggars. Many of them have disabilities, missing limbs, fingers, toes, noses and ears... they are helpless without any means to support themselves. The mission provides land/accommodation as well as food for them. Currently their homes are make-shift huts. Mostly made out of straw and mud that do not hold up well against the monsoon rains.

Recently thanks to the help of a volunteer named Des Wilmott from Australia we have begun construction on a new housing project for them. We hope to be able to provide them with larger brick homes, beds, furniture, running water, bathrooms and a proper septic system. This will improve their quality of life significantly. If you are interested in supporting these people or this work please get in contact with us.

If there was ever a project that showed the power that every person has to change the world, it is this. Mr Wilmott is normal person who has chosen to do something amazing for others.

25/06/2009 Update!
Construction has gone well, the brickwork is almost completed. Furniture and other items have been purchased and are ready to be used once the building is completed. The men in the workshop completed welding up all the window frames and door frames and Bidiya our carpenter is working on the wooden doors.

We have finished off all the brick work, including a fence around the colony and also placed the cement sheeting up on the roof. We plan to start work on the plastering next week.

06/08/2009 Update!
Plastering is now complete on the walls, floors and outside pillars. There is still a few small cementing jobs to do but we expect to be finished in a few days. Following this is painting, fitting out the electrical systems and setting up the toilets/bathrooms.

12/08/2009 Update!
We are now ready to start painting. There is still a few small things to do -mostly in the bathrooms and exterior landscaping. We have quite a few visitors out here at the moment and painting is a great project for them. Also we plan to put down a hand pump in the next few weeks.

13/09/2009 Update!
Thanks to some volunteers from Australia and New Zealand we have now completed the painting... well at least most of it. There are several sections that we plan to paint after the monsoon. We have decided to put off the electrical work and the hand pump/septic system until after the monsoon.

20/03/2010 Update!
Funding has now been completley raised for the work in the Leper Colony. Rick and Des (who has returned from Australia) are working hard at setting up the septic system. After that there are a few small jobs before the project will be completed. We are planning to have a small opening celebration in the coming weeks.
