A campaign for simple school desks became a global story of generosity, creativity and children receiving better places to learn, grow and dream each day.

In 2014, the GSAM launched a campaign with a very practical goal: raise enough money to provide 60 new desks for students at Maxton Strong School. The campaign, originally called School Desks for Orphans, was created with the help of volunteer John Marshall, who produced the campaign videos.

At first, the target was modest. We hoped to raise $4,000, and even that felt ambitious. But people from around the world connected with the story, shared it, gave generously and encouraged others to do the same. The campaign did not just reach its goal; it grew far beyond anything we expected, raising over $40,000.

One of the most memorable parts of the campaign was the One Voice song and video. It was originally created as a special thank you perk for two generous donors, Rebecca and Andrew, but it became much more than that. The song gave voice to the children, the need and the hope behind the campaign. It turned a simple fundraising effort into something deeply human and memorable.

The impact went far beyond desks. The funds helped purchase 60 desks, a school bus, an additional school van, 50 plastic chairs, cupboards, benches and computers. A project that began with the need for children to sit and study properly became a major step forward in the development of the school.

These campaigns were about desks, but they were also about people. Every desk became a place for reading, writing, learning, dreaming and growing.
