Disaster Relief
Providing practical emergency support during floods, fires, and other disasters affecting our local community and wider region.
Ready To Help When Disaster Strikes
GSAM is not a large disaster-relief agency, but we are deeply rooted in the Banbasa community. When emergencies happen nearby, our staff, older students, vehicles, equipment, and campus resources allow us to respond quickly and practically.
Our location near rivers, farmland, forest, and village communities means that floods, fires, and severe weather can quickly put homes, animals, crops, and families at risk. In those moments, practical help matters: moving people to safety, protecting belongings, supporting local authorities, clearing damage, and helping families recover.
Disaster relief is one part of GSAM’s wider commitment to serving the community around us. We help where we can, with the people and resources we have.
Flood Relief In Our Local Area
Flooding is the most common disaster risk in our immediate area. During heavy monsoon rains, rivers and drainage channels can rise quickly, leaving homes, roads, fields, and parts of the campus under water.
When flooding occurs, GSAM helps with rescue and practical support wherever possible. Our team assists families in moving to safer areas, helps protect possessions from rising water, works alongside local authorities, and goes out by boat when access by road is no longer possible.
After floodwaters recede, the work continues. Homes need cleaning, damaged items need sorting, and urgent health risks must be addressed. In some cases, this includes removing dead livestock to reduce the risk of disease spreading through the community.
Flood relief is difficult, dirty, and often exhausting work, but it is one of the most practical ways we can stand with our neighbours during crisis.
Fires, Earthquakes, And Emergency Response
Floods are not the only emergencies our community faces. During the dry season, jungle fires can spread quickly toward farms, homes, and standing crops. When this happens, our team uses the tractor and spray tank to help control flames and slow the fire until the Fire Department arrives.
In 2015, after the devastating earthquake in Nepal, GSAM was able to respond beyond our immediate area. Within three days, our children and staff set up a rapid packing line and prepared 500 relief packages for families in need. These included food, tarpaulins, torches, batteries, rope, rations, cooking tools, soaps, matches, and other essentials.
The supplies were loaded into a bus and car, transported to Kathmandu, and delivered directly to families with the support of local authorities. It remains one of the clearest examples of how quickly the GSAM community can mobilize when people are in urgent need.
Whether during floods, fires, or unexpected disasters, practical readiness makes a real difference. By supporting GSAM, you help us stand with our community when life becomes most difficult.
